How do you perform a wave experiment in class?

For example, to show a small wave in shallow water, and to show a big wave in deep water? What materials do you have to use to show it?

Thanks!

if you are looking to do this on a small scale for a personal experiment you should get a alrge plastic box (textbook tray) then you can fill with differing depths of water. raise one end of the box with a wooden ruler on it's edge. then let ruler fall flat - this will create different waves and you can look at the difference in wave speed. alternatively you could try to lay your hands on a 'ripple tank' - these tend to come with motors and different wave making shapes.
