It really is a disgusting practice. Some villages see it as a girls rite of passage into womanhood. A girl who isn't circumcised isn't worth marrying.

Some believe that it makes the women purer, cleaner and has some spiritual significance. But if you ask me, the whole practice barbaric and unnecessary.
They try to justify it in religious terms, but the practical result is a woman can no longer have an orgasm which pretty much puts a halt to any sexual enjoyment, thereby she is more likely to be chaste and less likely to stray once married. Being sexual and being a woman is a no no.
